Educational beliefs of families with Japanese marriage migrants: Analysis of life stories in five Asian countries
Project Overview
Countries with a declining population face the dilemma of having some of their citizens residing overseas. While the inclusion of nationals living abroad has been regarded as an important issue among countries with a declining population, Japanese marriage migrants residing in Asia have been drawing more attention as a new migration phenomenon. In this study, we focus on families of Japanese marriage migrants in five Asian countries (China, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore). We will collect life stories from not only Japanese migrants themselves, but also from their spouses in their native language with the help of overseas’ collaborators. By analyzing their educational views from their narratives, we aim to reveal the characteristics of this new migration phenomenon.
